This 1926 silent film was re-edited and had dialogue and music added to it in 1932. It's theme is similar to many other Yiddish films of that era. It is about the conflict between the traditional and modern ways of life that greeted Jewish immigrants upon their arrival in America.
Directed by Sidney M. Goldin
His Wife's Lover (Zayn Vaybs Lubovnik) is a classic of Yiddish cinema and is about Eddie Wien (played by famous Yiddish stage actor Ludwig Satz) who dresses up as an old man to see if a woman will only marry him for his money or not. This comedic film features a few songs in Yiddish, all of which are of secular content and do not deal with Jewish issues but rather with issues of the depression era and of love.
Directed by Joseph Seiden
This Yiddish film brings the classic tale of Faust to the Shtetl. It is about a pious man who makes a deal with the devil and the downward spiral that he is led down. Music plays a major part in the film, most notably the fiddle playing motive that appears at various points.
