Yahid Ram Ye'arot Hosef
Acrostic "Meir" Abuhatzira. The strophes, alternating between Hebrew and Judeo-Arabic, form the pattern aaabbab, except for the opening strophe, whose form is abbab. The "a" are verses longer (eight syllables) than the "b" verses (five syllables). The poem is mainly a praise of God and a description of his qualities. The melody is in the sha'abi (popular) style; it combines Eastern elements with a Moroccan rhythmic feeling. The musical structure is rather complex in comparison to the other piyutim in this album. The arrangement by Niro Abekasis combines instrumental solos with choral and responsorial singing: the choir sing the opening and the refrains while the strophes are responsorial, with different soloists each time. The arrangement intensifies the built-in tension created by the asymmetric musical meter.
